PENGUINS GOALTENDERS IN PLAY?

The Pittsburgh Penguins are generating a lot of interest in a number of their players, with star forward Jake Guentzel leading the way.

As TFP’s David Pagnotta reported this week, Penguins forwards Reilly Smith and Rickard Rakell are also generating discussions with Pittsburgh GM Kyle Dubas, in addition to Guentzel, who is healing from injury.

During the “Saturday Headlines” segment on Hockey Night in Canada, Elliotte Friedman reported the Penguins have started to receive inquiries about their goaltenders Tristan Jarry and Alex Nedeljkovic.

Jarry, who turns 29 in April, is under contract for four more years after this season, while Nedeljkovic, 28, is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this July.

“One position I do think that people have started to ask about and the Penguins will consider is goal,” Friedman said. “They’ve got Jarry and Nedeljkovic at the NHL level, they’ve got a really good prospect in Joel Blomqvist, who’s having a good year in the American Hockey League, and a couple of teams have suggested to me that you might want to add to the list of goalies who could be moved someone in Pittsburgh.”

Jarry also owns a 12-team no-trade list as part of his contract.

It's unclear, at this stage, which teams have asked about Jarry or Nedeljkovic, but both would generate different degrees of interest based on their contracts.

Meanwhile, as Friedman also noted, the Carolina Hurricanes, Edmonton Oilers, Florida Panthers, Vancouver Canucks and Vegas Golden Knights are among the teams believed to have interest in Guentzel, but he added, “I have no doubt there are more.”

Dubas is not expected to make a decision on Guentzel’s immediate future unclear closer to the March 8 trade deadline.
