KRAKEN HOPING TO SIGN EBERLE

The Seattle Kraken have generated plenty of interest in veteran forward Jordan Eberle, who is in the final year of his contract and is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent July 1.

As the Kraken sit seven points back of a playoff spot in the Western Conference, Seattle GM Ron Francis is evaluating his team and entertaining calls for the likes of Eberle, centre Alex Wennberg, defenceman Justin Schultz and winger Tomas Tatar, among others.

Eberle, 33, is in the final year of a five-year, $27.5 million contract and owns a 16-team no-trade list as part of his contract.

During Monday’s CCM Hockey Trade Deadline primer segment on TFP, David Pagnotta reported the Kraken are trying to sign Eberle to an extension and prefer to lock him up to a new deal rather than trade him.

“My understanding is the Kraken would like to re-sign him. They have had conversations with his agent Craig Oster over at Newport; so far, nothing really to report,” Pagnotta said. “There hasn’t been much progress there, but they’re going to continue those conversations later this week as other teams poke around, as well, to see what the price tag may be.”

The Edmonton Oilers, Florida Panthers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Los Angeles Kings could be among the teams eyeing Eberle if he does not ink an extension with the Kraken.

In 53 games with the Kraken so far this season, Eberle has registered 13 goals and 21 assists for 34 points.
