BRUINS, SABRES TALKING TRADE?

The Boston Bruins are looking to add both up front and on the blueline and could be engaged in trade discussions with the Buffalo Sabres.

Sabres Assistant GM Jason Karmanos has taken in Boston’s last two home games and could be keeping tabs on some of the Bruins’ players.

According to TFP’s Shawn Hutcheon, the Bruins may have interest in Sabres veteran forwards Kyle Okposo and Zemgus Girgensons, both of whom are playing on expiring contracts and are eligible to become unrestricted free agents July 1.

Sabres defenceman Erik Johnson could also be on the move ahead of the March 8 trade deadline, but as TFP’s David Pagnotta reported in his column on Friday, Buffalo is expected to consult with him on potential landing spots, if dealt.

Bruins GM Don Sweeney has little salary cap space to play with and any move could result in a roster player being dealt to another club.

Meanwhile, on Friday, former NHLer Andrew Peters said on the “After The Whistle” podcast that the Sabres are actively shopping centre Casey Mittelstadt, who can become a restricted free agent this summer.

“I have heard from a very reliable source that (Sabres GM) Kevyn Adams is shopping Casey Mittelstadt hard; doesn’t want to pay him,” Peters said. “So, I pressed a little bit, and said 'what are they wanting in return.' Didn’t have that information, just knew 'shopping him hard.' And last but not least, but they are looking for a goalie.”

It is unclear if the Bruins have interest in Mittelstadt, or what the price tag is on the 25-year-old.
