HURRICANES EXPLORING TRADE MARKET

Frederik Andersen, goaltender

The Carolina Hurricanes have struggled on the road of late, losing four straight away from home and now possess a 6-10-0 record on the road.

The Canes currently sit two points back of both a wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference and the third and final spot in the Metropolitan Division with a 14-12-1 record, and frustration is starting to boil over.

As GM Don Waddell continues to shop defenceman Tony DeAngelo, the club is also believed to have dipped its toe in the goaltender market. It is unclear whom the Hurricanes may be looking at, though the likes of Montreal Canadiens netminder Jake Allen and Anaheim Ducks starter John Gibson are two goalies available.

Allen has a seven-team no-trade list as part of his contract, while Gibson owns a 10-team no-trade list.

With the suspicion that starter Frederik Andersen may be done for the season – he was placed on the IR on Nov. 6 and classified as out indefinitely with a blood clotting issue – the Canes haven't seen one of their other netminders step up and take the reigns.

Antti Raanta has a 3.40 goals-against-average and a .860 save percentage, while Pyotr Kochetkov has a 3.12 GAA and a .873 save percentage.

The Hurricanes join the Edmonton Oilers and New Jersey Devils among the teams scouring the market for help between the pipes, though the Oilers may have shifted their focus to a bottom-six forward and a physical defenceman after the recent play of goalie Stuart Skinner.

According to CapFriendly, the Hurricanes have just over $2.666 million in salary cap space as of Monday.
